How The Fernseed nails their online vibe

 Welcome back to Desktop Chats!

On this weeks post I want to talk to you about the online presence of businesses. Online communication is incredibly important for companies in today's age and how they communicate to the public through this medium helps them succeed or fail. Today I want to look at the business The Fernseed, it is a small plant and flower shop located here in Tacoma, Washington.

If you looked at The Fernseeds instagram or website, you would see the cozy vibe they give off. Not only do they post photos of beautiful flower arrangements and potted plants but they also do a great job building their brand through connecting with the community and the local shops around them. After taking a closer look at what they communicated online through their social media page and website, here's what stood out the most to me.

The Fernseed does a good job engaging on their instagram page, posting at least once a day with a floral arrangement or updates on in-store events. Their tone is friendly and approachable and it makes you feel like a part of their community. Their website is also very user friendly, they had tons of information on their services like plant care, delivery, workshops they are hosting, and they have a handy FAQ page for common questions.

The website for the company is easy to navigate and makes total sense, at the top of the site is a search bar and a banner promoting mother's day (shout out to all the moms), the middle of the site features products and collections, then at the bottom on the site is the store hours, contact info, and a newsletter signup option. This is a great tactic used by businesses, you draw in your audience with pretty pictures then you present them with your products and finish off with all the essential technical information, this is smart and effective.

I think The Fernseed plays on the plant shop identity, their website uses a lot of earthy tones so browns and greens mostly. They are down to earth with their photography, they use their friends and employees to pose for most pictures for plants and that makes it seem like a safe space. Overall, The Fernseed does a good job with their online communication, they don't just post content, they craft messages that speak to their audience and invite them in. This relates to our readings this week with rhetorical perspective and understanding how communication is shaped by context and audience (Campbell et al., 2014).

Thats all I have for this week and I hope you have a great weekend. Byyyeeee!!
